SQL COURSE CURRICULUM

Week 1 – Getting Started with SQL

  •  Introduction to databases and SQL concepts
  • Installing/connecting to SQL environment (MySQL, PostgreSQL, or SQL Server)
  • Understanding databases, tables, rows, and columns
  • Writing your first queries: SELECT, FROM, WHERE

Week 2 – Querying and Filtering Data

  • Using DISTINCT, ORDER BY, and LIMIT
  • Filtering with comparison operators, BETWEEN, IN, LIKE
  • Combining conditions with AND, OR, NOT
  • Sorting and cleaning query outputs

Week 3 – Aggregation and Joins

  •  Aggregate functions: COUNT, SUM, AVG, MIN, MAX
  • Grouping and summarizing data with GROUP BY and HAVING
  • Understanding relationships between tables
  • Writing different types of joins: INNER, LEFT, RIGHT, FULL

Week 4 – Intermediate to Advanced SQL Features

  •  Subqueries and nested queries
  • Common Table Expressions (CTEs)
  • Window functions (ROW_NUMBER, RANK, PARTITION BY)
  • Data modification: INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE
  • Introduction to database design concepts (keys, constraints, normalization)
  • Creating and managing views (CREATE VIEW, ALTER VIEW, DROP VIEW)
  • Benefits of views for security, abstraction, and simplifying complex queries

Week 5 – Real-World Projects & Reporting

  •  End-to-end project: querying a business dataset
  • Building reports from SQL queries
  • Exporting and connecting SQL queries to BI tools (Excel, Power BI, Tableau) 
  • Best practices for query writing and optimization

No, all resources from the class will be provided during the class.


No, having a regular computer that can run SQL will be fine. From our experience, windows computers tend to work better for running the software.
